The Leadership to Ensure Adequate Nutrition (LEAN) project in Bangladesh, led by United Purpose and funded by the European Union (EU), was aimed at improving maternal and child nutrition in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) through nutrition-sensitive and climate-smart agriculture. Innovision examined the knowledge, attitude, and practice gaps that affect nutrition-sensitive agriculture and value chain development across nine upazilas in Bandarban, Khagrachari, and Rangamati.
The report utilized qualitative research methods that were applied through 18 focus group discussions (FGD), 18 key informant interviews (KII), and 45 in-depth interviews (IDI) with producers, producer groups, and service providers. Innovision found that knowledge of nutritious food, safe food, climate change, and improved agricultural practices remains low, while actual adoption of good agricultural practices is very poor.
Innovision therefore recommends training on production, nutrition, digital tools, and marketing, alongside better credit access, irrigation, preservation facilities, and market linkages. These interventions can strengthen nutrition-sensitive agriculture and improve long-term food and nutrition security in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
