Policy Brief 2: Is Bangladesh on Track to Achieving the SDG Targets for Health? A Health Systems Perspective

The Bangladesh Miracle in health is built upon six critical pillars, ranging from service delivery to health financing. While the nation has achieved global acclaim for its Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), reaching the 2030 SDG Targets requires moving beyond past victories to address current plateaus in under-five mortality. A transition to evidence-based, data-driven decision-making is essential to refine the current infrastructure and ensure high-quality care for all citizens.

To accelerate progress, Innovision advocates for incentive-based policies that encourage the private sector to lead in primary healthcare through mechanisms like tax rebates. Strengthening the quality and deployment of human resources remains a priority, particularly the immediate recruitment of graduate pharmacists to combat irrational medicine use and rising antibiotic resistance.

Innovision recommends that Bangladesh must move toward self-reliance in specialized drugs and vaccines to mitigate dependence on foreign markets. By establishing a central data repository and a post-pandemic roadmap that addresses adult vaccination and mental health, the country can transform its "two-lane" healthcare system into a robust, high-speed infrastructure capable of meeting global standards.
