Market Assessment and Value Chain Analysis Report for Gender-inclusive Pathways out of Poverty for Vulnerable Households in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh

The Gender Inclusive Pathways out of Poverty project in Cox’s Bazar was aimed at supporting ultra-poor households in Ukhiya and Teknaf to graduate from poverty through profitable livelihood opportunities and gender-inclusive market participation. Innovision identifies viable income-generating activities (IGA) and value chains that can improve productivity, income, and resilience for vulnerable households, particularly women.

Innovision uses mixed-methods analysis to examine five selected value chains: homestead vegetables, indigenous chicken rearing, beef cattle fattening, dried marine fish, and marine fish. The study covers 393 households and interviews 236 value chain actors to assess market demand, profitability, and constraints affecting ultra-poor participation.

We found strong market potential in vegetable cultivation, poultry rearing, and dried fish processing, while highlighting barriers such as limited technical knowledge, lack of credit, weak market linkages, and gender-based constraints. Innovision recommends training, financial support, improved input supply, and stronger producer–market connections to expand livelihood opportunities and empower women in local value chains.
