Low Income Population BANGLADESH (COVID 19)

Innovision Consulting’s presentation Low Income Population BANGLADESH (COVID 19) reveals the enormous scale of vulnerability facing the country’s informal workforce during the pandemic. Over 51.7 million people work in the informal economy, accounting for 77.3% of urban employment and 88.1% of rural employment. In rural areas, 93.3% of women are engaged in informal work.

Key occupational groups within this low income population include 1.5 million rickshaw pullers, 3.6 million garments workers, 5.2 million transport workers, 2.6 million construction workers, and 2.4 million hawkers. According to Innovision, these workers depend entirely on daily earnings with almost no savings or social protection.
