Innovision Consulting has developed a COVID-19 Sectoral Heat Map to help stakeholders understand the varying impact of the pandemic across Bangladesh’s key economic sectors. With 168,645 confirmed cases as of July 2020 and a prolonged nationwide lockdown, the economy faced severe disruption despite government stimulus packages worth over Tk 103,117 crore.
This Sectoral Heat Map offers a practical visual tool for policymakers, development partners, and private sector actors to compare the degree of COVID-19 impact against available recovery support. It classifies sectors into four dynamic stages: Boost, Leverage, Reboot, and Revitalise. The analysis shows that sectors are highly fluid. While construction and transportation bounced back quickly after lockdown, others such as tourism, livestock, and leather may require stronger policy intervention to reach sustainable recovery.
Innovision Consulting recommends providing immediate support to sectors in the Boost stage to accelerate their transition into the Leverage stage. To ensure long-term resilience, Innovision recommends continuous monitoring through quarterly updates and sectoral digests as the pandemic’s economic effects continue to unfold.
