Innovision identifies that while Bangladesh is recognized as a "break-out" economy, the digital revolution among small businesses is moving at a slower pace. Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) contribute approximately 25% to the national GDP, yet the business sector's digital adoption index remains low at 0.25/1. To remain competitive in the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it is vital for these industries to transition from basic IT tools to resource-intensive deep tech solutions.
Most Bangladeshi SMEs are currently stuck near "The Chasm" of the technology adoption lifecycle. Innovision notes that while "Innovators" and "Early Adopters" are beginning to utilize digital marketing and e-commerce, the "Early Majority" faces significant hurdles.
To drive the digital revolution forward, Innovision argues that policies must align with the practical incentives of small businesses. Creating a conducive environment requires more than just capacity building; it necessitates cheap, scalable digital infrastructure and SME-friendly regulations. Unless the various components of the ecosystem work in a coordinated "symphony," graduating the SME sector toward full digital maturity will remain a significant challenge for Bangladesh.
