Bangladesh Budget FY 27: Synthesis

On 11 June 2026, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury tabled the BNP government's first budget in the 13th Parliament — Bangladesh's largest ever, framed around economic recovery, job creation and election pledges amid sluggish growth and persistent inflation.
Highlights:

Total outlay of Tk 9,38,000 crore, a record high.
GDP growth targeted at 6.5%, against ~4% actual growth in recent years.
Revenue target of Tk 6,95,000 crore, with NBR tasked to collect Tk 6,04,000 crore.
Deficit of Tk 2,43,000 crore — about 3.55% of GDP.
Deficit financing: Tk 1,12,000 crore bank borrowing, Tk 1,09,850 crore foreign loans, Tk 15,000 crore savings certificates.
Annual Development Programme of Tk 3,00,000 crore, prioritising health and education.
Interest payments of Tk 1,27,500 crore; tax-free income ceiling unchanged at Tk 3.75 lakh, with a proposed 35% top rate on incomes above Tk 3 crore.
