Job Description

Position Title: Associate – Database Management and Support
Reports to: Data Manager
Location: Head Office, Dhaka, Bangladesh
Type: Full-time

Position Summary

The Associate – Database Management and Support will play a crucial role in supporting evidence-based decision-making by collecting, processing, managing, and analyzing data across projects. The position requires maintaining high data quality standards, conducting statistical analysis, developing dashboards, and generating tables and reports that provide actionable insights for research and program implementation.

The Associate will work closely with field teams, research associates, project managers, and the Data Manager to ensure data-driven planning, implementation, and evaluation. The role requires strong technical proficiency in data manipulation and visualization tools, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines during data collection and reporting cycles.

Key Responsibilities

Database Management and Analysis

  • Manage databases and data systems, including validation, cleaning, documentation, and archiving.
  • Clean raw datasets and prepare analysis-ready files.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and outliers.
  • Perform descriptive and inferential statistical analysis using SPSS, STATA, R, or Python.
  • Develop interactive dashboards for real-time monitoring and decision-making.
  • Automate routine reporting processes where applicable.

Data Quality and Field Coordination

  • Collaborate with field teams to ensure data collected meets quality standards and research objectives.
  • Supervise data quality assurance processes during fieldwork.
  • Assist in designing survey instruments and data collection tools in coordination with project leads.
  • Support digital data collection setup using platforms such as SurveyCTO, Kobo Toolbox, ODK, etc.
  • Assist in creating data dictionaries, variable coding manuals, and data protocols.

Project Support and Evaluation

  • Provide analytical support (quantitative and qualitative) for baseline, midline, endline, and impact evaluation surveys.
  • Generate analytical tables, outputs, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure high standards of data confidentiality, ethical handling, and compliance with data protection guidelines.
  • Manage multiple datasets and projects simultaneously while maintaining strict quality standards.

Qualifications

Educational Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field from a reputed national or international university.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in data analysis, preferably in the research or development sector.
  • Strong experience in data cleaning, management, and preparation of clean datasets in SPSS or STATA format.
  • Experience working with multiple projects simultaneously and meeting tight deadlines.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in at least one statistical software package (e.g., SPSS, STATA, R, or Python).
  • Strong knowledge of advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, formulas, data manipulation).
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Google Data Studio.
  • Familiarity with mobile data collection platforms (e.g., SurveyCTO, Kobo Toolbox, ODK).
  • Experience with database management systems (e.g., MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) will be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with data protection and ethical guidelines for handling sensitive information.
