Innovision Joins Research Partnership to Develop Sustainable Fish Feed from Biogas

Innovision Consulting has formally joined a collaborative research initiative led by icddr,b in partnership with the Rural Development Academy (RDA) in Bogura to explore the production of microbial protein from methane-rich biogas as a sustainable alternative to imported fishmeal in aquaculture feed.

The agreement signing took place at the icddr,b Mohakhali campus on 9 February 2026, bringing together senior representatives from partner institutions. Innovision was represented by Kazi Shahed Hasan Ferdous, Country Director, and Tamanna Mastura, Project Coordinator. The agreement was signed by Dr Tahmeed Ahmed, Executive Director of icddr,b, and Dr A. B. M. Mahbub Alam, Director General of RDA, in the presence of representatives from collaborating organisations.

The project will establish a pilot bioreactor at the RDA campus using biogas generated from RDA’s existing plant. With technical support from Stanford University, USA, the system will convert methane into single-cell protein (SCP), a nutrient-rich microbial protein that can be incorporated into aquaculture feed. The formulated feed will undergo experimental trials in collaboration with Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU).

Innovision is leading the market analysis and commercial feasibility assessment of the initiative. This includes evaluating the pathway from pilot to industrial-scale production, assessing investment requirements, and identifying viable business models for market integration.

By converting methane, a potent greenhouse gas, into value-added protein, the initiative contributes to climate mitigation while advancing circular economy solutions within Bangladesh’s agricultural ecosystem. At the same time, developing locally produced feed protein presents an opportunity to reduce reliance on imported fishmeal and strengthen resilience within the aquaculture sector.

The partnership brings together research institutions, technical expertise, and market advisory capacity to assess whether this innovation can move beyond proof of concept toward scalable commercial application.
