Innovision’s Managing Director Highlights the Need for Climate-Resilient Microinsurance for the Aquaculture Sector in Bangladesh at FIF 2025

Md. Rubaiyath Sarwar, Managing Director of Innovision Consulting, delivered a compelling presentation on 25 July 2025 during Impact Talk 2 at the Frugal Innovation Forum (FIF), held at BRAC CDM, Savar. He focused on Innovision’s innovative microinsurance product for climate-resilient aquaculture, developed in collaboration with Green Delta Insurance PLC under the Bangladesh Microenterprise and Market Development Project (BMMDP), funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by Swisscontact.

Organized by BRAC, FIF 2025 convened development professionals, entrepreneurs, and changemakers from across the Global South to explore this year’s theme: “Climate Adaptation in Agriculture, Food Security, and Livelihoods.” The two-day conference featured panel discussions, immersive field visits, and impact-driven showcases. It provided a platform to address pressing climate challenges through frugal and scalable innovations.

In his talk, Rubaiyath highlighted how climate-induced shocks such as erratic rainfall, flash floods, and heatwaves have severely impacted Bangladesh’s aquaculture sector. Despite the country being the world’s fifth-largest aquaculture producer and third in Tilapia production, these recurring disasters are disrupting livelihoods, particularly for low-income fish farmers who rely on species like Tilapia, Koi, and Pungas as affordable sources of animal protein.

He presented a pilot solution that embeds extension services, quality inputs, and a mobile app-based pond management system into a microinsurance package. This ensures that the premium provides value even without a payout.

The pilot has shown promising results in helping farmers adapt to climate risks while improving their operational efficiency. He concluded with a call to action, urging stakeholders from the development and private sectors to join forces in scaling this integrated and climate-smart model.

Innovision remains committed to advancing inclusive and market-based solutions that respond to climate challenges and build long-term resilience across the Global South.
