On 26 August 2025, the second day of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) training and medical camp for salt farmers took place at Leda Government Primary School, Teknaf. This initiative is part of the Leaving No One Behind: Improving Skills and Economic Opportunities for the Bangladeshi Community and Rohingya Women and Youth in Cox’s Bazar (ISEC) project of International Labour Organization (ILO). Innovision Consulting is supporting ILO to strengthen the sea salt and seaweed industries and improve workplace safety, health standards, and fair labor practices for salt workers in the region.
In partnership with the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), Innovision hosted OSH training sessions attended by 30 salt farmers. The training covered crucial occupational safety topics, including physical injury prevention, ergonomic practices, respiratory health, and infection control, along with guidance on posture management, stress management, and social safety.
Alongside the training, Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK), Cox’s Bazar, provided medical services and extended health insurance coverage to households of beneficiaries. Around 70 salt farmers and their family members received health consultations, free basic medicines, and diagnostic tests such as hemoglobin, blood grouping, blood pressure, and blood sugar assessments. ACI Pure Salt has also expressed interest in supporting the initiative, reflecting a growing collaboration between private and development actors.
This program builds on the first OSH training sessions conducted in January 2025, where mill workers and salt farmers across Eidgaon Upazilla participated in similar sessions. Innovision continues to complement training with medical camps to ensure the well-being of workers, offering comprehensive health assessments and treatment for common occupational and lifestyle-related health issues.
ILO is implementing the Global Affairs Canada funded ISEC project to create inclusive economic opportunities in Cox’s Bazar, especially for youth, women, and marginalized communities. Innovision is supporting ILO in strengthening the sea salt and seaweed industries. ACI Pure Salt has also expressed interest in supporting this initiative, reflecting growing collaboration to improve health and safety in the salt sector.
Through these efforts, Innovision aims to empower marginalized groups, including women, youth, minorities, and people with disabilities, by fostering a safer, healthier, and more inclusive market system in Cox’s Bazar’s salt sector.
