Innovision Consulting Provides Seaweed Farming Training to Farmers in Cox’s Bazar

On 17 December 2024, Innovision Consulting, in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), conducted a training on “Seaweed Farming: Post-Harvest Management and Business Development” in Nunier Chara, Cox’s Bazar, engaging 35 farmers. A second session was held on 19 December 2024 in Paschim Pollhali, training 17 farmers. The initiative aimed to equip farmers with practical knowledge to enhance seaweed cultivation, foster sustainable development, and boost economic opportunities.

The training was structured into theoretical discussions, practical demonstrations, and field exercises. Participants learned about the importance of seaweed farming, suitable species, ideal conditions, and advanced cultivation methods like longline and floating raft techniques. Sessions covered farming costs, potential earnings, maintenance, and harvesting techniques. Participants also received seed supplier lists, water quality guidance, and expert contacts to ensure their success.

This training is part of a larger project by Innovision and ILO to tackle challenges in Cox’s Bazar’s Sea salt and Seaweed industries, including limited market access, outdated techniques, and financial constraints. The project empowers marginalized groups such as women, youth, minorities, and people with disabilities while fostering an inclusive market system. By enhancing labor standards and introducing innovative approaches, this initiative aims to transform these sectors into drivers of economic growth and sustainability.

Innovision’s efforts to collaborate with stakeholders, promote fair practices, and enhance productivity are paving the way for a vibrant economic landscape in Cox’s Bazar. Together, we are shaping a future where these industries contribute significantly to local and national prosperity.

Stay tuned as we continue this transformative journey!
