Innovision Collaborates with ILO for Sustainable Development of Sea Salt and Seaweed Industries in Cox’s Bazar

Cox’s Bazar, which produces 90% of Bangladesh’s salt, is a vital hub for the country’s sea salt and seaweed industries. Despite their significant economic potential, these sectors face a range of challenges, including limited market access, outdated production techniques, and insufficient financial resources, all of which hinder productivity and competitiveness.

In response, Innovision Consulting, in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), is leading a project aimed at addressing these challenges and promoting sustainable development in Cox’s Bazar. The initiative focuses on creating economic opportunities for local communities, empowering women, youth, minorities, and people with disabilities, and improving labor standards, while diversifying salt products and building resilient market systems.

As part of the project, Innovision Consulting conducted a Seaweed Farmer Identification Survey involving 247 farmers, both new and experienced, to gather insights into their challenges and needs. The findings will guide the development of targeted training programs, improvements in production techniques, and stronger market linkages, ultimately aiming to unlock sustainable growth in the sector.

This collaborative effort aims to transform Cox’s Bazar’s Sea salt and seaweed industries into key drivers of inclusive growth, fostering long-term economic prosperity for local communities while contributing to Bangladesh’s broader economic development.
