From Low Skilled Roles to Career Pathways: Innovision Strengthens Women’s Employability in Bangladesh’s RMG Sector

Despite driving Bangladesh’s economic growth, the Ready-Made Garments sector continues to face a persistent skills gap, particularly for women. Many young female workers remain concentrated in low skilled roles, with limited access to training, promotions, and long-term career progression.

To address this challenge, Innovision Consulting has completed the first year of skills development implementation under the Building Youth Employability through Skills programme in the RMG sector. Implemented in partnership with Swisscontact and supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the initiative focuses on strengthening factory based training systems and improving women’s access to better jobs.

Through the programme, 517 women workers were trained across two Tier 1 garment factories in Savar EPZ and Gazipur. Innovision led on the ground implementation, delivering Training of Trainers and Training of Assessors to develop 20 master trainers, with strong female participation from factory management.

The training engaged helpers, fresh recruits, and operators in practical technical and soft skills modules designed to improve productivity, multi skilling, and confidence. As a result, many participants advanced from helper to operator, junior to senior operator, and into supervisory roles, accompanied by improved wages and job security.

Beyond technical skills, the programme strengthened communication and workplace confidence, enabling women to engage more openly with supervisors and gain stronger support from their families.

With the first year completed in December 2025, the BYETS initiative demonstrates how inclusive, factory-based skills development can create sustainable career pathways for women while strengthening productivity and resilience in Bangladesh’s RMG sector.
