The World Bank Bangladesh, Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi), SME Foundation, and Innovision Consulting jointly organized the Buyer-Supplier Summit 2025 on 8–9 September at the Bangladesh Institute of Architects, Dhaka.
The summit created a vibrant platform for small and medium enterprises, particularly women-owned SMEs, to connect directly with corporates, financial institutions, and market networks. Over 2 days, participants engaged in product showcases, pitching sessions, a fashion runway, and targeted matchmaking designed to open doors to new contracts and long-term business relationships.
A total of 46 enterprises representing 25 SME clusters across Bangladesh took part in the event. These enterprises highlighted the diversity and creativity of local industries, spanning leather, light engineering, handloom, hosiery, nakshi kantha, wood and bamboo products, pottery, and jewellery. By presenting their supply capacities to buyers and industry leaders, the participating SMEs gained visibility and explored opportunities for sustainable integration into value chains.
A key attraction of the summit was the Business Pitch Competition, where 8 women entrepreneurs presented their ventures to a distinguished jury panel. Their compelling pitches underscored the innovation and resilience of women-led businesses in Bangladesh. On the final day, Plaboni Yeasmin was awarded 1st place, followed by Arifa Awal in 2nd place and Zuena Mitul in 3rd.
The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Adilur Rahman Khan, Honorable Adviser to the Ministry of Industries, as Chief Guest. Mr. Jean Peme, Division Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan at the World Bank Group, attended as Guest of Honour, while Ms. Hosna Ferdous Sumi, Senior Private Sector Specialist at the World Bank Group Bangladesh, joined as Special Guest. Mr. Mosfequr Rahman, Chairperson of SME Foundation, presided over the sessions, highlighting the importance of SME-led growth in the national economy.
The Buyer-Supplier Summit 2025, organized under the We-Fi project of the World Bank in partnership with SME Foundation and organized by Innovision Consulting, is designed to deliver both immediate and lasting impact. Beyond transactional outcomes such as contracts and partnerships, the summit strengthens the confidence and visibility of SMEs, particularly women entrepreneurs, ensuring their meaningful participation in local and global supply chains.
