RDC RICE OUTPUT MARKET ASSESSMENT

Contributor: By Innovision Consulting

Innovision has recently been working on a ‘RDC Rice Output Market Assessment’ for ACDI/VOCA funded by USAID under the Feed the Future initiative. RDC’s (Rice and Diversified Crop) goal is to increase rural income by catalysing a process that leads to competitive and inclusive rice based market systems.

Innovision undertook the study to identify the potential and challenges in the rice output market of the RDC zone. The study was conducted in the Southern region of Bangladesh covering Bhola, Barishal, Jessore, Jhenaidah, Khulna, Satkhira and Kustia and the rice varieties were chosen in collaboration with ACDI/VOCA in light of the data of rice production from Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).

Innovision recommended several interventions following the findings that involved: facilitation of procurement channels of the millers, improving the technical expertise and brand recognition of millers, creating linkage with e-commerce sites, facilitating export of BRRI Dhan 34, improving supply of quality seeds to farmers, promotion of fine grain varieties in Bhola and Barishal and promoting proper post-harvest technics.
