Narrative description of Project:
The Agro-Inputs Project (AIP) is a five-year project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as a part of the US Government’s Feed the Future (FTF) Presidential Initiative.
- AIP’s objective is to improve supply of quality agricultural inputs through input retailers. AIP identified and contextualized an indicator entitled “Number of farmers and others who have applied improved technologies or management practices as a result of USG assistance” from the list of FTF indicators to measure the progress at smallholder farmers, served by the retailers of AIP’s Agro-Inputs Retailers’ Network (AIRN). The current survey is an attempt to assess the progress by collecting data on application of improved technologies or management practices by smallholder farmers in relation to inputs and embedded services (input application methods in relation to production and personal safety) provided by the AIRN retailers.
- The survey was quantitative in nature and face to face interview technique was used. The survey included the project working areas under Dhaka, Khulna and Barisal Divisions. The sample was 672 after considering 95% CL, 5% EL and 80% statistical power. The sample unit was selected in two stages. In the first stage, the required number of villages was selected from the database provided by the AIP through PPS (Probability Proportional to Size) method and then from each village required number of farmers was selected randomly.
