Narrative description of Project:

The USAID-funded Bangladesh Agricultural Value Chains (AVC) project envisages facilitating growth & upgrading the agricultural sector and maximizing value by increasing income for the rural poor who participate in it. The goal of the project is “improved food security through strengthened agricultural value chains” & the project targets a portfolio of both food and non-food agricultural crops and addresses any shared constraints across such value chains. AVC targets Mango under fruits category to develop capacity of mango farmers in producing safe fruits by following safe production and post-harvest practices. Objective of the assignment is “Capacity Building on High Yield Variety Pulses’ Cultivation for the Pulses’ Farmers”. DAI want to target and facilitate training for 40,000 mango farmers in selected southern districts. Each subcontractor is expected to reach at least 8,000 farmers. The subcontractor needs to select farmers and organize them in groups, conduct 2 days training following training modules on modern cultivation practices, post-harvest management, access to finance, gender and nutrition issues and environmental issues.

Description of actual services provided by your staff within the assignment:

As the subcontractor for the project Innovision is providing complete management support that included recruitment and training of human resources, financial management, monitoring and evaluation. Innovision was responsible for the following:

  • Staff recruitment and capacity development to ensure that the project team is able to manage the interventions based on the Making Markets work for the Poor (M4P) approach
  • Select and organize farmers into groups
  • Develop training manuals
  • Organize training of trainers and farmers meetings
  • Collect and analyze farmer data
  • Communicate results to the client, donors and industry stakeholders as deemed necessary
